Our first in-person convention since the pandemic will be underway in San Diego, California November 29 - December 1, 2023. This convention is a full three-day event including networking receptions, the ILCA awards luncheon, as well as a robust schedule of panels and workshops around the theme of Communicating in the 21st Century Labor Movement - Organizing for the Future.

Wednesday, November 29, 2023: Advanced Communicators Day & Welcome Networking Reception

  • This year’s Advanced Communicators day will focus on Strike Preparedness and Contract Campaign communications tools. We’ll discuss real life case studies on the recent strikes you’ve been hearing about and work through strategic planning, member engagement, crisis communications, media relations and more.

Thursday, November 30, 2023: Communicating in the 21st Century Labor Movement, Tools & Tech

  • On Thursday, we’ll focus on technology as it relates to our communications work. We’ll hold featured panel discussions on the Delta Organizing Campaign, and on the Labor Movement and Climate Change. In breakout groups we’ll cover the latest tools to help reach members and future members effectively. With workshops on the NLRA, Paid Digital Media, Action Network, AI, Podcasting, and Naritive Storytelling in Video Production.

  • During lunch, we’ll host a discussion on the future world of communications and how ILCA can help support communicators. We’ll also discuss the current state of the organization and call for nominations from the floor for the ILCA Officer and Executive Council Positions so that ballots can be made for Friday’s election.

  • In the evening, all ILCA Convention participants are welcome to join us for a special cultural event at the Chicano Park Museum and option social event following. Details are in the full agenda.

Friday, December 1, 2023: Organizing for the Future, PR Dynamics of the Post-Pandemic World

  • On Friday, we’ll focus on communications and media relations in the post-pandemic world. Communicators are working at a faster pace than ever before, we’ll take time to cover our collective stress, world of work, challenges and triumphs and more. Workshops will include, Digital Organizing, Media Relations and Social Media. We’ll hold featured panels on Labor Communications and the Left as well as ask Where Are We Going? and take a look at The State of the Labor Movement across North America.

  • We’ll also hold the ILCA Awards Luncheon, celebrating our 2022 and 2023 winners on Friday. We’ll also conduct Officer, and VP Elections if contested. Ballots will be counted during the luncheon and results will be shared at the conclusion of the awards. Please note: the constitution provides only one vote per member organization, please designate one member of your delegation to pick up your ballot, the entire delegation is responsible for a method of selection internally to your delegation.
